CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The N.C. Department of Transportation said the speed limit on the outerbelt of Interstate 485 will increase from 65 miles per hour to 70. Multiple news sources say the change will occur Tuesday. The DOT says recent studies found most traffic already traveled between 70 and 75 mph and the outerbelt was designed for traffic to go 70 mph. The speed increase is in conjunction with the completion of I-485. read full story
