The Charlotte City Council approved Monday a zoning amendment that eases restrictions on local breweries' ability to expand.
The required distance between residential areas and breweries and similar establishments has been reduced from 400 feet to 100 feet.
Businesses said the larger buffer would have kept them from expanding in areas such as NoDa and Elizabeth. Monday's unanimous approval marked the end of three years of work updating the city's zoning regulations.
NoDa Brewing Company, one of the most popular breweries along the North Davidson Street craft beer corridor, said the previous buffer would have required them to leave the neighborhood as it looks to expand.
