Attempted child abduction at Lincoln bus stop

A Lincoln County man was arrested Tuesday for trying to abduct a child from a bus stop, authorities said.

The 12-year-old girl told authorities Ernest Carroll Rose, 63, approached her around 6:30 a.m. on Bill Sain Road in western Lincoln County.

Rose asked the girl several questions and asked her to come with him, the sheriff's office said in a statement. The girl ran to a neighbor's house and called 911. She was not injured during the encounter.

Deputies found Rose walking along the same road. They said Rose lives about 100 feet from the bus stop.

After being questioned, Rose was charged with felony attempted child abduction. He was jailed under a $75,000 bond.
