(MIAMI) -- Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino is withdrawing his name from a lawsuit against the NFL related to player concussions.
Marino released a statement on Tuesday, saying that he had "authorized a claim to be filed on my behalf, just in case I needed future medical coverage to protect me and my family in the event I later suffered from the effects of head trauma."
However, Marino said, "In so doing, I did not realize I would automatically be listed as a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the NFL."
Marino, deciding that it was "not necessary" for him to be involved in the lawsuit, has withdrawn his name as a plaintiff "effective immediately."
ESPN reported on Tuesday that there were concerns that Marino's involvement in the lawsuit could jeopardize conversations about a position with the Miami Dolphins organization.
