ABC News

(NEW YORK) -- A man who is accused of assaulting V. Stiviano outside the Gansevoort Hotel in New York on Sunday was identified and charged on Tuesday.

A Long Island man, Dominic Diorio, faces charges of assault as a hate crime, assault, harassment and aggravated harassment in connection with an alleged attack against the woman at the center of the Donald Sterling scandal this past weekend.

Stiviano claims that she was referred to in racist terms and punched outside a hotel in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan. On Tuesday, Stiviano spent much of the day at a New York Police Department precinct identifying the alleged attacker. She plans to return home to Los Angeles.

Police say Stiviano claimed that the incident occurred after she refused to take a photo with a group of men who had been harassing her.
